Washburn University
THE EXCHAGE
Bods Feeding Bods
April 28, 2015
Dear Fellow Student,
Did you know that at Washburn University:
-
At least 80 percent of the student population reported having less than high food security.
-
The USDA defines food security as "access by all people at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life."
-
A survey in 2013 found that 45 percent of respondents said they cut their meal portion or skipped a meal because they did not have enough money for food.
-
Among those respondents, 16 percent said that this occurred every month.
You may be asking why you should care. The answer is simple: there is a good chance that the person sitting next to you in class did not get a balanced meal last night, or a healthy breakfast for a full day learning.
The Exchange is an on-campus food pantry serving the Washburn community. Ran by Bods Feeding Bods, a student run organization, The Exchange has been in operation since November 2014. The goal of the organization is to make food available to students in need.
Now you may be asking how you can help. Again, the answer is simple: donate!
We invite you to attend Bods Driving Out Hunger in the Memorial Union, outside the corner store, on April 28, 2015 from 9:30-1:30. Bring items from home, such as canned goods, grains, proteins and fruit. You can also use your Bod bucks to purchase goods.
Donate for a chance to win one of two pairs of Royals tickets! Free Pepsi products will also be available, while supplies last.
If you are unable to attend Bods Driving Out Hunger and would like to help, you can drop off donations in the Maybee Library or the basement of Henderson Learning Center outside room 19. Each location has a bin designated for The Exchange.
With your help, we can end hunger at Washburn University.
Sincerely,
Brista Robinson
